Advanced Choice Workshop Songwriting: "What Is My Place?" By Maja Nevreus
WOW, What an adventure! We have just completed our first ever Advanced Choice workshop here at Tierramitica. The workshop was 15 days full on mythic energy! The participants not only completed their first collective art project, sculpting and collaborating together to finish the massive sculpture of power animals in just five days, but each of them also wrote and recorded their first songs. Never having done anything like this in their lives, they left feeling empowered to truly do anything they put their minds to. We will be debuting a new song each day.
We proudly present our first release: "What is my Place?", by Maja Nevreus, introducing herself her process and her song:
"In the Advanced Choice writing our own songs was a part of the workshop as a healing tool. I felt hesitant of my abilities to write a song, something I've never done before. I got the title of my song: What is my place? My stomach dropped and this sentence was nagging me in the back of my mind for the next few days. We learned that we should start with writing stories, emotions, words that comes up when reading your title. What is my place? A place where I belong? A place that I have in society? I started writing stories of when I was a girl helping out my mum, of my place in friendships, my place in the world. The common thread in the stories where the narrative of a victim, that I was forced to choose these places for myself. But what I failed to realize was that my place is what I decide and only I have the power to choose wherever and whatever place I want to be. This felt empowering.
This song was written based on my stories, in a collective fashion, inviting everyone to contribute to lyrics that rhyme and fit in with my melody. It was incredibly valuable and FUN to have all the argonauts being a part of the process, being inspired by and seeing ourselves in each other. It is my story as well as everybody else's. This song is helping me to snap out of my victim drama and to remind me and engrave a new belief that I have all the choice and power to be in whatever place I want to be."
What Is My Place?
I thought I never had no choice, of my place in life.
Sisterʼs savior, Motherʼs helper, Daddyʼs little girl
Sacrificing myself for my friends, resentments getting old.
An angry bitch deep inside, I play my lovely smile.
What a stupid girl. What a stupid bitch.
Mother Teresa to all my friends, and they never even asked.
I am your cook, I am your bitch, use me if you please.
Iʼll do the dishes, Iʼll clean the floor, but then I'll hate you more.
The goody goody girl, that always tries to please.
I thought I had to choose this very place for me.
To be the idiot maid and beg them to love me.
What a stupid girl. What a stupid bitch.
Sinking in my drama, without a single trauma.
Weak and helpless come to me, Iʼm your bitch, Iʼll scratch your itch.
What a stupid girl. What a stupid bitch.
I was UNESCO to my folks, and tried to keep the peace.
I played my sisters shrink, and I didnʼt get a dime.
I thought she wouldnʼt like me unless I saved her ass.
What a stupid girl. What a stupid bitch.
And now I know its all my choice, of what my place should be.
Instead of choosing stupid roles, Iʼm having me some fun.
I heard a really clever voice, that said its all my choice.
My place is what I choose to be, why make a stupid choice?
No more stupid girl. No more stupid bitch.
The place I choose is of a queen, on my Andrewʼs lap.
Rubbing my titties in his face, making that ass slap.
No more stupid girl. No more stupid bitch.
Iʼll have a podcast and Iʼll rock, and have me fun some more.
Iʼll shake my ass and sing this song to everyone and all.
Iʼll take the place of a cool bride, the jungle is my scene.
Be glorious in my full pride, now you all see what I mean.
My place in TierraMitica is what I truly claim.
A place among kings and queens truly is my place!
Not a stupid girl. Not a stupid bitch.
